Friends, do you know the story of the establishment of Vaidyanath Jyotirling of Lord Shiva, if not then today’s blog is for you only, so without any delay let’s go straight towards the religious city of Deoghar in Jharkhand where this amazing Jyotirling is established. The story of establishment of this Jyotirlinga is linked to Lankapati Ravana. Ravana was a great devotee of Lord Shiva. The famous Shiva Tandav Stotram is also composed by Ravana. It is said that once Ravana, the king of Lanka, performed severe penance on the Himalayas to please Lord Shiva, but he could not please Lord Shiva. When the Lord did not give him darshan, he cut off his heads one by one and offered them as a sacrifice. Kept pouring it into the pond. While doing this he cut off 9 of his heads. When he was about to cut off his tenth head, Lord Shiva, pleased with his devotion and sacrifice, appeared and returned all his ten heads. God asked him to ask for a boon. Ravana expressed his wish that Lord, you go with me to Lanka in the form of Kamanalinga so that I can install your Shivalinga there. The purpose of carrying his Lord in the form of Kamna Linga was that he should become Ajay forever.
On this request of Ravana, Lord Shiva agreed to go but he kept a condition of his own that wherever he places the Shivalinga, this Shivalinga will be established there and will not move even if you lift it. Ravana accepted this condition of God and left the Himalayas.
While going towards Lanka, Ravana was passing through Deoghar city of Jharkhand, meanwhile he suddenly got a minor pain. Ravana knew that if he placed the Jyotirlinga on the ground, it would be established there. Then he saw that a cowherd whose name was Baiju was coming from the front. Ravana told the cowherd that you hold this Shivling for some time, he will come in some time. He told the cowherd but do not keep this Shivalinga on the ground. Baiju agreed to Ravana’s request but due to the heavy weight of the Shivalinga, Baiju could not lift it for a long time and he placed the Shivalinga on the ground.
By the time Ravana reached there, he found that the Shivalinga was on the ground. He tried hard to lift the Shivalinga but he could not succeed. Tired and defeated, he returned to Lanka. Later, that Shivlinga along with Lord Vishnu, Brahmadev and many deities was worshiped and replaced with rituals. Since Shivlinga was placed on the earth by Baiju, hence it came to be known as Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga.
This is the only Siddha Peeth where both Shiva and Shakti are present. At a short distance from this Jyotirlinga, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of Maa Sati is present here. It is said that the heart of Maa Sati had fallen at this place. This place is known as Hridayapeeth.
Maa Shakti is present here in the form of Jayadurga. Is worshiped in.
There is a flood of devotees in this temple of Lord Bholenath in the month of Sawan. Thousands of devotees from all over the country and abroad come here for darshan. Taking holy Ganga water from Sultanganj, he walks 100 km to reach Baijnath Dham.
